Another story in 100 words - Hidden Treasure

by franpal @ 20. Aug. 2007. - 11:45:01

Many thanks to la_spice, my blog friend, for providing me with the title for another story in 100 words. It's not as easy as it sounds U-( but if anyone else would like to challenge me, please feel free to send me a title and I'll get writing!

Hidden Treasure

They said I was getting fat.

I said baggy was the fashion.

Who were my parents to dictate what I ate anyway?

I had fat friends. I had thin friends. I had a boyfriend they didn’t know about.

As I sat, alone, in the sterile waiting room, I felt they didn’t know me either.

Cool gel oozed on my plumpness, ‘It’s a girl’ she said. My precious girl.

She couldn’t stay my secret forever.

Her ‘parents’ will collect her from the delivery suite. I’ll be her first kiss and first goodbye.

But like well hidden treasure, she’ll be mine to find.

For anyone who has bothered to count the words, yes I know there are 101, but la I hope you can forgive me :)

That's rather good, I think you could cut out the word 'well' near the end to make exactly 100 with no loss of meaning.

Actually that's a really good idea! Thanks :)

I write the occasional article for magazines and have to write to an exact number of words. I wish some modern writers would exercise self-editing. I enjoyed that, thanks.

Well done - brilliant - and a lovely story to boot!

Ah there's another title "The Old Boot"

Hi franpal, I challenged la_s to write one but she chickened out, ask her and she will tell you what it was.

Sad story.

Well, late to see you but allow me to participate.
How about "when John loved the whale" as a title for a story?
One more thing. Giving a title I feel 'obliged' to accept one too. If you bother that is.
Good game by the way.

Ok thanks, title accepted, though I'm sooo busy with work at the mo that it might take me a few days to get started on these.

So you want a title...

Well I think how about 'the little black toe'?

Happy writing :)

Guess I managed something with the 'toe'.

A 100 words? I love it , its an absolutely wonderful idea to do your stories like this. I think it demonstrates your true skill as a writer. very interesting writing. I am looking forward to even more

Thanks :) It does take some time to shave a story down to 100 words but it is good practice for all writers as it keeps you focussed and makes you question whether you need quite as many words as you thought to convey the meaning of something.

Hopefully I'll get the chance to post some more very soon.

;)
